August 15th (Ferragosto) is special – the one day in the year when even most of the poorest members of society are given the opportunity to relax with friends and family – the opportunity to come away from the oppressive summer heat of Milan or the pianura for a day on the lake. One day at least when everyday worries are suppressed to the background if only for a short while.

The beach area behind the Tempio Voltiano is NOT a permitted swimming site since it is at the mouth of the Cosia river and just downstream from the city’s waste water purification plant. It does look very tempting on a hot sunny day but it is not safe.
