Sport

I will post information on inclusive sport activities here where readers can participate if they wish rather than just  observe.

Cricket

Cantu CricketThere is a cricket club in Cantu known as the Cantu Cricket Club. The team is made up of Pakistani citizens resident in Cantu who come together to play a sport that is the most popular in the Indian sub-continent, and also played wherever the British Empire established itself. The club offers a great opportunity to get to know the game, which is almost impossible to explain to those who have not grown up with it. In addition, the club offers a great opportunity to participate in an Italo-Pakistani cultural exchange. The club has also had some success of late and so well worth your support if living in the Cantu area. Contact the club via cantucricketclub@gmail.com or on 340 1598 462.

Rowing

canottieri larioThe Canottieri Lario is Como’s rowing club on the lakefront in Viale Puecher. It was established in 1891 and has built up a great reputation nationally and across Europe. It runs after-school courses for 9 to 13 year old children which run during the school year. They also have summer courses that run from the end of the Italian school year until mid July. Adults who have an interest in rowing can take up membership, follow a brief course to train or revise rowing skills and to point out some of the safety procedures to follow on the lake. Membership also brings use of the sauna, gym and swimming pool – as well as to the bar and restaurant. Their web site is only in Italian but gives  comprehensive information  on their activities. The Facebook site is a less formal and more revealing idea of the club atmosphere.

Rugby

rugbycomoThe first mention is for Como’s Rugby Club in that it may not be at first obvious that there is a rugby club here since those of us from the UK or France might have mistakenly thought that there was little local interest. Instead the club offers involvement in the sport for a variety of ages. Their web site is only in Italian but gives an idea of the scope of their activities and how to contact them.
